1. Having Choice Over Your Privacy

Sometimes you just want to feel enclosed in your home, and quite literally shut the world out!

If your windows are already dressed in curtains, then that may well not be an option for you in the daytime. Enter the world of shutters, which give you a whole range of options for your everyday needs.

Shutters have a wonderful way of working with your life, and allows you to be in control throughout the day (compared to the opening and closing of curtains at the start and end of the day), with many different ways of styling your shutters to suit your mood.

Fitting your home with shutters enhances on your feelings and emotions, such as starting the morning with them pulled wide open to let the sun stream in, to leaving them pulled together and slanted for more privacy during the day, to closing them shut for more cosiness.

2. Bringing The Outdoors In

Incorporating fresh flowers and plants into your home will not only enhance the visual appearance of your home, but also encourage:
  • Provide fragrance to your space
  • Allow you to feel connected to natures life cycle and the outdoor world, contributing to a sense of perspective
  • Assists you in how you want to feel that week in what arrangement and colour you choose
  • Provides a focus for mindfulness and reduces stress
  • Improves the air quality and minimises pollution in our home
  • A connection to the seasons

3. Creating A Space To Disconnect

In a day and age where we are always connected to the world beyond our home with our phones, emails, televisions, news alerts and notifications to get back to, it is becoming increasingly harder to fully wind down in our homes.

We recommend creating a no-tech space for your home, filled with everything that makes you feel grounded, peaceful and at ease.

It would include a chair/sofa that makes you feel truly comforted, a blanket, some cushions to relax back into, some books and magazines, a notebook to write down your thoughts, and some scents to bring yourself into the present with, such as a candle, incense or essential oils and maybe even some photos that make you happy.

Having your set space to disconnect from the world can become a crucial part of your day and gives you a sense of true relaxation and grounding.

4. Fill Your Home With Nourishing Foods

It is visually appealing to have foods placed in bowels in your kitchen, dining table and even your coffee table. We love the appearance of lemons, oranges, artichokes, plums and apples.

Having these dotted around your home adds a sense of connection to nature and how you fuel yourself, while also adding a temporary focal point to your space.

Our Owner, Helen Grundy-Smith, is a believer in incorporating organic and locally sourced goods into your fridge, with a weekly meal plan in your kitchen to help guide you through your week and utilise all ingredients in your kitchen, without wastage.

Filling your home with colourful foods, along with those treats that provide your balance, increases on your overall sense of wellbeing.

5. Declutter Your Space

Begin editing your space to store away or sell those things that no longer feel 'you' or bring you joy, and instead begin to fill those empty spaces with paintings, photos, objects, cushions or other pieces that make you feel happy, authentic and 'you' again.

Decluttering your home doesn't mean removing anything and everything you can see, but carefully curating an edit of items that feels 'enough' for both you and your space will allow your home to really shine, making you feel uplifted, spacious and even makes space to fall in love with your home all over again.

6. Build A Bedroom That Creates Peace

Our bedroom is one of the most important spaces in our home. It's a place to reset from the day, heal your mind and body, transform your headspace, re-connect to yourself and find peacefulness.

We recommend a bedroom that feels both cosy but not cluttered, with a mixture of textures and tones, with warm lights and fittings to feel homely and comforting.

7. Create A Space To Host

Opening up your home to host is not only important for your wellbeing and sense of connection to others but also provides you with an abundance of memories shared between your friends, neighbours and extended family in your home.

We recommend creating a space within your home to host where you feel most confident. Do you enjoy cooking? Try a making pasta night with your friends. Like a drink in the garden? If your space allows you could set up a fire pit with blankets and drinks, or if you need pure relaxation, set up a cosy den in your living space, with candles, blankets and soft lighting.

We're big believers in your home being a space of happy memories. Remember, it's a space to be used, loved and enjoyed, rather than a show home.

Happy hosting!
